Fusion Energy

Fusion energy is a form of power generation that seeks to harness the energy released during nuclear fusion, the process in which two light atomic nuclei combine to form a heavier nucleus, releasing a significant amount of energy in the process. This reaction occurs naturally in stars, including the sun, where extreme temperatures and pressures allow hydrogen nuclei to fuse and produce helium, alongside vast energy output.Fusion energy has the potential to provide a nearly limitless and clean energy source, as the primary fuel—typically isotopes of hydrogen, such as deuterium and tritium—is abundant and can be extracted from water and lithium. Unlike nuclear fission, which splits heavy atomic nuclei and generates long-lived radioactive waste, fusion produces minimal radioactive waste and carries a significantly lower risk of catastrophic accidents.Researchers are pursuing various methods to achieve controlled fusion on Earth, including magnetic confinement, as seen in tokamaks, and inertial confinement using lasers. While fusion energy has not yet been achieved commercially, advancements in technology and international collaborations, such as the ITER project, aim to make it a viable, sustainable energy source for the future.
